About George

Hi, I’m George – a 25-year-old tutor from the UK. I offer services from university-level tutoring to 11+ and assistance to those applying for Oxbridge or other universities. I have 4 years of experience in the industry, working with students of all ages, abilities and nationalities, and I have a thorough understanding of the importance of tutoring having received, and benefited from, it myself. All the tutorial services that I offer are for subjects that I studied whilst at school and in preparation for exams that I personally sat. Hence, what I offer is not only knowledge of the syllabus and its contents, but a particular and deep understanding of what examiners and mark schemes are looking for in practice. The highest-achieving students are always those that synergise a theoretical understanding of the syllabus contents with a practical ability to satisfy the particularities of examiners and mark schemes. My goal as a tutor is to develop students – at all levels, from 11+ to GCSE to University - who have this balance of theoretical understanding and practical exam skills.

Unlike many other tutors, I extend my tutorial services beyond school to the university admissions process. I offer tailored support with student’s personal statements, course selection and interview prep where necessary. I do this for a wide variety of subjects and for all UK universities.

For those applying to Oxbridge I come with the credentials of having twice experienced the Oxbridge application process – at both Oxford and Cambridge. I graduated from University of Oxford with a double First, finishing in the top 10% of my Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE) cohort. Whilst at university I developed and still maintain relationships with tutors and professors involved in the admissions and interview process. I have since helped numerous students negotiate the Oxbridge admissions process for PPE, Economics & Management (E&M) or other Economics or Philosophy-based courses.

When I am not tutoring, I am a cricketer based in the UK, as a National Counties player, and in South Africa, as an overseas player in Cape Town. Currently, I am also learning to code with AiCore in order to develop my data science and machine learning skills. I sustain an independent interest in lots of the subjects that I tutor, and I am starting a blog online to publicise thoughts and questions I have been privately developing on issues in philosophy, political economy and the modern world. I believe that exposing and expounding one’s views is essential to one’s personal and intellectual development, which is why I try to cultivate a culture of debate, open-mindedness and independent thought wherever possible in my tutorials.
